My thoughts on "Keep in Mind" lists

I was (un)fortunate enough to receive my first unsolicited request for placement on my (non-existent) "Keep in Mind" list, and thought I'd better post an explanation. The person in question is probably quite annoyed at my response. [reads email reply] Yep, she is!

To keep this as simple as possible:

I don't believe in "Keep in Mind" lists, and I don't have one. Please do not ask to be placed on my list, it doesn't exist.

I feel the "Keep in Mind" phenomenon, marketed as "a nice way to give yourself a short-list for adoption" or "a way to express that you're interested in owning the subject, should it come up", comes across to me as "a convenient way for jealous people to guilt-trip and obligate owners to feel they must list people, as denying someone KIM placement would seem rude."

Please let me assure anyone reading this, I have no hesitation about coming across as "rude", as *I* find it rude that someone would solicit me and basically ask for my fanlisting. The subject in question is my newest; I've only owned it for two months, and have no intention of giving it up, especially after so short a time! Doesn't that seem rude to you, to ask someone for something they've just opened? (Is it just me?)

At any rate, these are my personal opinions only, and don't reflect any networks I run or networks I formerly staffed at. Please don't ask to be on my KIM list. (Repetition never hurts. Also, please don't argue with me about why I'm wrong about KIM lists, everyone's entitled to an opinion. Just because mine inconveniences you doesn't make it invalid.)
